The Senate is the principal overall decision-making organ in respect of all the academic matters and is responsible for the academic work of the University in teaching, research and consultancy and for the regulation and superintendence of the education of the students of the University.

The membership of the Senate shall include:
a. The Vice Chancellor, who shall be the Chairperson;
b. Two Deputy Vice Chancellors one responsible for Academic matters who shall be the     Vice-Chairperson; and the other responsible for administration.
c. Principals of Affiliated Colleges and Campus Colleges of the University;
d. The Deputy Vice Chancellors responsible for administration;
e. Deputy Principals of Affiliated Colleges and Campus Colleges responsible for academic matters;
f. the Director of Student Services
g. Deans of Schools, Faculties and head of Academic Departments.
h. The Directors of Institutes, library, and academic Centres;
i. One member who shall be elected by the Students’ Organization from amongst the members of the Students’ Organization;
j. One member who shall be elected by the Academic Staff Association from amongst its members;
k. Two members appointed by the Council one of whom shall be female.
l. Two persons, one from an accredited national university and another from an accredited sister university and;
m. One member from majority Trade Union
